Before the visit, locating the site on a map helps explain its relationship with water, routes and relief. On site, begin with the overall setting before focusing on details. Monuments never tell the whole story: materials, repairs and changing uses also reveal how a place lived. Water, sun protection and suitable footwear allow visitors to focus on the site rather than discomfort.
